...But this is Indiana!

In 49 other states, it's just sports.

Wigley Field Is NOT Ideally Suited For College Football

If you follow SB Nation Indiana editor Travis Miller at his blog Hammer & Rails, you know that the endzone issues at Chicago's Wrigley Field for the Illinois v. Northwestern game are just a tad concerning.

While I think it is cool to have a football game at Wrigley Field, have you see how close the back of the end zone is to the wall? Holy crap! Someone is going to die. Yes, it is padded, but one of the reasons Wrigley is such a hitters’ park is because of this wall. Outfielders naturally slow down getting close to it on fly balls because IT IS A FREAKING BRICK WALL!

Well, this afternoon Brian Hamilton of the Chicago Tribune Tweeted an announcement from the Big Ten:

Wow. Big Ten just said only the West end zone will be used for #Northwestern vs. #Illinois at Wrigley. (East end zone too close to RF wall.)

Apparently, the Chicago Cubs issued a statement, expressing 'surprise' at the Big Ten's 'last minute' decision. Frankly, if you look a picture of the East endzone (like the one provided by Hammer & Rails), no one should be surprised. In fact, the only thing surprising is that they agreed to play a game at Wrigley in the first place.
