I.U.'s Ben Chappell Passes Hoosiers To Victory Over Akron

Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) - Ben Chappell threw for 342 yards and four touchdowns, as the Indiana Hoosiers downed the Akron Zips, 35-20, in non- conference action at Memorial Stadium.

Chappell completed 23-of-33 pass attempts for Indiana (3-0), which improved to 3-0 all-time versus Akron. Terrance Turner was his main target with six receptions for 121 yards and a score, while Ted Bolser hauled in a pair of touchdown passes.

Patrick Nicely led the way for Akron (0-4) with 175 yards and two scores through the air, while Jeremy LaFrance was on the receiving end of both touchdown tosses.

The Hoosiers wasted little time, scoring just minutes into the game on a 10- yard touchdown pass from Chappell to Bolser.

The Zips got on the board a few minutes later with a 45-yard field goal from Igor Iveljic.

Chappell and Bolser hooked up once again late in the opening quarter, this time from eight yards out to give Indiana a 14-3 advantage.

Iveljic then hit a 29-yard field goal to open the second-quarter scoring.

Indiana responded with a two-yard touchdown pass from Chappell to Max Dedmond, but the Zips answered moments later with a 28-yard scoring strike from Nicely to LaFrance.

With just 45 seconds left in the half, Turner caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Chappell to give Indiana a 28-13 halftime advantage.

The lone score of the third quarter came from Tandon Doss, who scurried nine yards to paydirt to give Indiana 35-13 lead.

LaFrance snared an 18-yard touchdown pass from Nicely early in the final quarter, but Akron would get no closer.
