The latest twist in the saga of How Peyton’s Neck (Doesn’t) Turn, it appears that another preseason tradition may intersect with the ailing star: Brett Favre. Yesterday Colts Owner Jim Irsay tweeted that he was in Hattiesberg, Mississippi looking for Favre:
“Brad, I’m in Hattiesburg … is it right or left at the Firechief?” Irsay tweeted Sunday, presumably referring to former Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress, who traveled to Mississippi last July in an apparently successful attempt to keep Favre from retiring.
Favre’s longtime agent Bus Cook said he hadn’t spoken with the former quarterback in a few days, but the “last time I saw him he was on his tractor mowing the back forty.”
Through a spokesman, Colts’ general manager Chris Polian declined comment on Irsay’s tweet.
“I’m in Mississippi, down at the crossroads….looking 4 that deal Mr. Johnson cut so many years ago,” Irsay wrote in another tweet.
Of course, the quirky Irsay could just be messing with fans, as he often tweets strange things and classic rock lyrics. Still, it is an interesting option if there is any truth to the rumor. Favre’s 2010 season was a disaster plagued by injuries, but in 2009 he led the Vikings within a play or two of the Super Bowl.
