Louisville Vs. Seton Hall Final Score: Cardinals Hold On To Beat Pirates 60-51

The Louisville Cardinals (17-5, 5-4) went on the road Saturday evening to post a strong 60-51Big East win over the Seton Hall Pirates (15-6, 4-5).

The Cardinals were stingy on the defensive end as they jumped out to a 15-4 lead midway through the first half, then closed strong to take a 36-21 lead to the break. Things tightened up as Louisville tried to put the game away in the second half though. The Pirates dug in and found a way to work their way back in the game, eventually cutting the Louisville lead down to four points with a minute to play.

But the Cardinals came up big at the free throw line making five of six freebies in the final minute to put away the win as the Pirates wouldn't score again.

Russ Smith gave Louisville a boost off the bench with 14 points while center Gorgui Dieng added 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Guard Jordan Theodore couldn't get a three-pointer to fall when he wanted but still led Seton Hall with 18 points. The Pirates shot 27.6% from the field which included making just three of 18 three-pointers.

Louisville has a week off before they play again when they host Rutgers next Saturday.

Louisville Vs. Seton Hall Game Preview: No. 25 Cardinals Look For Separation From Pirates In Big East Standings

The No. 25 ranked Louisville Cardinals (16-5, 4-4) head to the Prudential Center to take on the Seton Hall Pirates (15-5, 4-4) in a battle of two Big East teams looking to move up in the standings. Both currently sit in ninth right behind No. 19 UConn.

Seton Hall are losers of three straight, dropping their first home game of the season this past Wednesday against Notre Dame. In that loss, the Pirates shot a putrid 26-percent and scored a season low 42 points.

Louisville is on the opposite end of the spectrum with two straight wins after a loss to No. 22 Marquette. The Cardinals have one of the best defenses in the country, ranked fourth in the country in steals with almost ten per game.

Game tips at 8 p.m. on Saturday night.
