Indiana At Iowa: Hoosiers Return To Road Struggles In 78-66 Loss

When the Indiana Hoosiers won at Purdue two weeks ago by 17 points it appeared their road woes in the Big Ten were over. The Hoosiers also had confidence heading into their game with Iowa after smoking the Hawkeyes 103-89 three weeks ago in Bloomington. Sunday night, the Hoosiers were well off their game, as Iowa snapped their three-game winning streak with a 78-66 win in Iowa City.

Matt Gatens was on fire for Iowa, hitting four consecutive three-pointers after Indiana had closed to within ten points. Melsahn Basabe also was marvelous in the paint against Cody Zeller. Gatens finished with 30 points after hitting seven three-pointers. Basabe had 13 points and seven rebounds.

Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller each had 15 points for Indiana, but 36% shooting on the day was a black eye for the Hoosiers, who could not get out in transition like they did during the game in Bloomington. Matt Roth had 12 points on perfect 4 for 4 shooting from long range.

Indiana Vs. Iowa: Hoosiers Look To Slow Down Hawkeyes, Keep Winning

The Indiana Hoosiers (20-6, 8-6) visit Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Sunday evening looking for a valuable Big Ten road win against the Iowa Hawkeyes (13-13, 5-8).

Normally, Indiana vs. Iowa doesn't evoke thoughts of a defense-optional, run-n-gun affair but that's what happened when the two team met three weeks ago in Bloomington. The teams combined to score 192 points as Indiana ran away with a 103-89 win.

Coach Tom Crean wasn't happy with his team's defense after that game as they let off the gas with an early lead. Iowa ended up scoring 52 second-half points and shooting 63% for the game, led by guard Josh Oglesby scoring 24 points and making six of eight three pointers. In four games since playing IU, Oglesby has scored a total of ten points.

So Indiana will need to make Iowa feel far less comfortable at the offensive end while looking for freshman Cody Zeller to expose Iowa's interior defense again. Zeller leads the Hoosiers with 15.7 points per game and had a season-high 26 points against Iowa making 11 of 12 shots in the process.

The game is scheduled to tip at 6:00 p.m. ET and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
