Valparaiso Takes Full Control In Horizon League

The Valparaiso Crusaders took a major step forward toward the NCAA Tournament by taking full control of the Horizon League Thursday night. The Crusaders went on the road to beat Cleveland State 59-41. The win moves Valpo to 11-3 in league play and drops Cleveland State to 10-3. More importantly, It gives Valparaiso the tiebreaker when it comes to hosting the Horizon League

Ryan Broekhoff scored 24 points for the Crusaders, who held Cleveland State to just 17 points in the first half on their home floor. Cleveland State shot just 25.9% from the field, and Jeremy Montgomery was the only Vikings player to reach double figures with 15 points.

Richie Edwards added a surprising 20 points off the bench for Valpo, which was a career high in Horizon League play for the junior from Lakeland, Florida.

Valparaiso also got help from Butler, who upended Youngtown State 68-59 on the road. With one more victory it is possible for Cleveland State to clinch a bye tot he semifinals of the Horizon League Tournament.
