2012 McDonald's All-American Game: Roster Includes Indiana Commit Kevin Ferrell

The 2012 McDonald's All-American Game will be feature a roster full of future stars as it puts the best high school players against each other in the annual all-star event. One of those stars will be Indiana Hoosiers commit Kevin Ferrell, better known as Yogi, as he makes the jump from Park Tudor to the big leagues.

Ferrell will follow in the footsteps of Cody Zeller as the second consecutive high school All-American for the Hoosiers. The announcement became official with a press release on Thursday.

"For 35 years, the McDonald's All American Games have showcased the best and the brightest high school stars nationwide and in 2012 the beat goes on," said Douglas Freeland, director of the McDonald's All American Games. "On March 28, fans have the chance to witness these elite players and get the first look at the world's future basketball stars."

The McDonald's All-American game has always been a fun game to watch and should be a good barometer as far as figuring out where Ferrell is in his current development. The full roster is available here.

College Basketball Recruiting: Breaking Down Kevin Ferrell Vs. Ronnie Johnson

Friday night's battle between Kevin Ferrell and Ronnie Johnson featured a game with five Division I commitments and at least three other players drawing serious interest. Ferrell, who will play for the Indiana Hoosiers, and Johnson, who will play for the Purdue Boilermakers, were the main attractions. SB Nation's Hammer & Rails was on hand and broke down both players:

RJ is a lefty, and his left handed shot is not the prettiest, but it can be effective. He was shooting a lot of deep three-pointers and finished 4 of 13 from long range and 6 of 20 overall, so it wasn't the best night shooting. Again though, his teammates had no idea how to attack the zone. Breaking a 2-3 zone is a team effort, especially in a motion offense. Any time RJ drove the defense collapsed on him and prevented him from passing or scoring. Still, I could see a lot of Purdue in him because he was a defensive hustler and not afraid to go after loose balls.

As for Ferrell, he exhibited next level speed and skill:

Ferrell is a very dangerous player for the Hoosiers because his speed and ability to slice through defenses gives them an element they currently lack. He went crazy for nine points and five assists in the second quarter by driving the lane and either scoring the ball or dishing outside to wide open shooters in Bayt and Spears. In turn, they shot the lights out of the gym. Park Tudor was down 10-8 with 4:08 left in the first quarter, but went on a 40-22 run over the next 12 minutes because of its three point shooting.

As for the game, Park Tudor won 83-61 on the strength of 13 of 18 three-point shooting.

Kevin Ferrell, Peter Jurkin Officially Sign With Hoosiers

Indiana's stellar 2012 recruiting class now officially has two more members as Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell, a point guard at Park Tudor School in Indianapolis and Peter Jurkin, a 7' center from United Faith Christian Academy in North Carolina signed their National letters of intent just before noon. Ferrell, one of the top prep point guards in the country, made his announcement official via Twitter

Kevin 'Yogi' Ferrell

I am officially a !!!

Ferrell will likely be the Hoosiers' starting point guard from day 1 of the 2012-13 season. He is one of a handful of candidates int he running for Indiana's Mr. Basketball award.

Jurkin is the lowest rated recruit in Indiana's No. 2 rated class. A 3-star prospect, he is expected to add defensive help according to Inside the Hall:

Expert opinion: "I think with Peter Jurkin defensively, you look at a guy like Baye Moussa Keita at Syracuse, who kind of carved out a role with his length and his ability to protect the rim. I think that’s what you want Peter Jurkin to do." – Dave Telep of ESPN.com

National Signing Day: Indiana, Notre Dame And Purdue Ink Top Classes

It is the start of the early signing period for college basketball and that means it is a big day for the state's top basketball programs. Indiana, Purdue, and Notre Dame are all expected to sign top 20 classes, with some services naming Indiana's class the best in the nation.

The Hoosiers are adding a pair of five-star recruits in Hanner Perea and Kevin Ferrell. They are expected to join forces with Cody Zeller and turn the Indiana program around from three straight last place finishes in the Big Ten.

Purdue's class feature four solid talents, and they may add five-star prospect Gary Harris from Hamilton Southeastern. Power Forward Jay Simpson and center A.J. Hammons are immediate impact players that will sign today. The Boilermakers also add point guard Ronnie Johnson, younger brother of current player Terone Johnson.

Notre Dame's class is smaller with just three commits, but Cameron Beidscheid and Zach Auguste are a pair of four-star commits that have the Fighting Irish in the top 20.

...But this is Indiana!

OK, Now Kevin 'Yogi' Ferrell's Mom Is Getting Into It

Cimg0802_medium

Earlier today, Indianapolis Star reporter Jeff Rabjohns did his job, and did it well, by posting news that 'Yogi' Ferrell was going to commit to Indiana University. This prompted a response from Yogi on his Twitter page, saying he has not committed to a school and that tomorrow's press conference will announce his intended school.

Well, it now seems Yogi's mom is a little ticked off at Jeff Rabjohns. Here's what she supposedly said to him on Twitter:

@JeffRabjohns Please don't look at, shake the hand of, or talk to my son Yogi EVER How cud u steal the most important day of my son's life?!

@JeffRabjohns Yogi will officially commit to a college (one of his top five) tmrw. Please don't be there! You already had your story.

Sounds like a lovely woman, doesn't she?

Bottom line here is no one cares about Yogi's 'important day.' The news we all wanted to know is will he attend I.U. Jeff Rabjohn's did his job by providing that info to us. Whether Yogi's mom likes it or not is irrelevant.

Oh, and Rabjohns should damn well attend the press conference.

I.U. blog Crimson Quarry passes along this news via the Indianapolis Star:

Jeff Rabjohns of the Indianapolis Star, citing "multiple people with knowledge of the situation," reports that Tom Crean's amazing recruiting haul will continue.  Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell, who according to Rivals is the #2 point guard and #17 player in the class of 2012, will announce tomorrow evening that he is committing to Indiana

Not long after the news broke, Ferrell posted this on his Twitter:

I have not committed anywhere yet. If u want to hear the real answer then come to the bball game tomorrow @PT 7:30 pm

Somehow, I'm guessing Ferrell's news conference tomorrow will involve something along the lines of him committing to a certain school in Bloomington, IN.
