NFL Trade Deadline Passed With No Movement From Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts chose not to make any moves at the NFL trade deadline. This isn't exactly surprising, but both Robert Mathis and Reggie Wayne were rumored to possibly be on the trading block.

Indianapolis Colts Didn't Move Robert Mathis Or Reggie Wayne At NFL Trade Deadline

The Indianapolis Colts were rumored to make a couple of moves at the NFL trade deadline, but ultimately nothing happened as the deadline passed on Tuesday afternoon. This isn't exactly surprising, but the rumor mill had mentioned both Robert Mathis and Reggie Wayne as being on the trading block.

The Colts aren't having anything even relating to something close to a decent season, especially by this team's standards, but moving one of their best players wasn't going to help change any of that -- a fact mentioned at Stampede Blue.

For that reason alone, it made sense for fans of the Colts to not expect much movement at the deadline, even if it probably was not what our friends at Stampede Blue were looking to see.

Right now, both the Colts (0-6) and the Dolphins (0-5) are the lead horses in the Andrew Luck 'sweepstakes.' If you watched the Dolphins last night, it was pretty painfully obvious that they need a quarterback. Should they have the worst record and snag Luck, that blue chip could be enough to lure a high profile coach to South Beach, perhaps Jon Gruden or Bill Cowher.

For the Colts, we'll be watched the trade 'tea leaves,' but we don't expect much movement. I personally hope I'm wrong and the Colts do offload vets for picks. The team is 0-6 for a reason. The roster is old and needs to be revamped. This team's 0-6 is not solely because Peyton Manning is hurt. It's much deeper than that.

All of that said, how does everyone feel about the Colts declining to make any moves on Tuesday?

Indianapolis Colts Trade Rumors: Is Today Reggie Wayne's Last Day As a Colt?

With the NFL trade deadline today at 3pm, the Colts could be major players, especially if Reggie Wayne is on the trading block as some rumors suggest. It is thought in some circles that Wayne could be traded, as he is a free agent at the end of the season and the Colts could be looking for draft picks to rebuild the team around Peyton Manning and his return in 2012. Owner Jim Irsay has denied these rumors in his usual fashion:

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay on Saturday extinguished speculation that his players are being shopped around as Tuesday's trade deadline approaches.

"No,the trade rumors aren't true...I'm negotiating 2 buy Mars though..so I can ensure inter-galactic,NFL dominance for the 25th century," Irsay tweeted.

Defensive end Robert Mathis has also been rumored to be on the trading block, as he too is a free agent at the end of the season. The Colts, who have started 0-6 for the first time since 1997, will likely have a high position in the draft and a trade of some of its free agents could buy additional draft picks to build one or two more contending teams for Manning. ESPN's Adam Schefter even suggested that trading MMathis and Wayne would be wise:

It took but a few minutes for the rumor to spread. From what I can tell, ESPN’s Adam Schefter apparently suggested today the Colts would be wise to deal WR Reggie Wayne to the Buffalo Bills and DE Robert Mathis to the New York Jets for fourth-round picks.

It was a suggestion. From a guy paid to give his opinion as an NFL insider.
