The Irish continued their hot shooting to start the 2010-11 Basketball season, as they were extremely efficient on offense tonight in a 97 - 72 victory over the Maine Black Bears. They shot 57.7% from the floor for the game, including 12-18 from 3 point range, and outrebounded the Black Bears almost 2-1 (32 to 17). This was by far their best shooting night on the young season.
Leading the way for the Irish was Tim Abromaitis, who only missed one shot all night, on his way to 26 points. All 5 Irish starters were in double figures, as well as Jack Cooley, who had a career high 13 points off the bench. Ben Hansbrough had 9 assists, and Tyrone Nash led Notre Dame on the glass with 11 rebounds, 4 on the offensive side. Nash was also 11/12 from the Free Throw line, something he is improved dramatically on over the offseason.
Maine didn't shoot bad from the field either, finishing the game at 48.4% from the floor. Gerald McLemore was the leading scorer with 16 points along with 5 assists. Maine is now 2-2 on the season.
Notre Dame heads to Orlando to play in the Old Spice Classic, where they'll take on Georgia on Thursday, and have 2 more games over the weekend. While they haven't exactly played a Murderer's Row of opponents, Notre Dame is ranked in the top 10 nationally in Points/Game, Assists/Game, and Rebounds/ Game.
