Another kickoff time has been announced for the coming Notre Dame Fighting Irish football season. Their annual rivalry game with Purdue has now been scheduled for a prime-time 8pm kickoff in West Lafayette. The Boilermakers and Irish played in their first night game two seasons ago with Notre Dame winning on a late fourth down touchdown pass from Jimmy Clausen to Kyle Rudolph. It will be just the sixth official night game in Ross-Ade Stadium history:
The game will mark just the second in 83 all-time meetings between the two schools to be played after sunset, and merely the sixth night game in the history of Ross-Ade Stadium (night games are defined by a 6 p.m. or later kickoff). In the only other primetime game between the Boilers and Irish, Notre Dame scored a game-winning touchdown with 25 seconds remaining to steal 24-21 win in West Lafayette in 2009.
The Boilermakers won their last night game, defeating Northwestern 20-17 in Evanston last season, and are 16-16 all-time under the lights.
Purdue is just 1-5 all-time in night games at Ross-Ade Stadium, with their only victory coming in 1994 against Toledo. They have lost to Ohio State (twice), West Virginia, and Notre Dame (twice) previously. Notre Dame also defeated Purdue 49-28 in a prime time game in 2005.
2011 College Football: Indiana, Purdue Announce Kickoff Times For Homecoming Games
Purdue and the Big Ten announced three more kickoff times for this fall’s football season in West Lafayette. The Boilermakers, who played all seven home games at noon last season, already have one primetime game when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish come to West Lafayette on October 1st at 8pm.
Today’s announcement is three noon kickoffs, though only one of them is a scheduled home contest. Purdue’s homecoming game against the Illinois Fighting Illini on October 22nd will be at noon in Ross-Ade Stadium.
Purdue will also be the noon homecoming opponent for the Michigan Wolverines on October 29th and the Penn State Nittany Lions on October 15th. That means Purdue will be involved in homecoming games for three successive weeks.
The Indiana Hoosiers also know the dates of their homecoming games. The Northwestern Wildcats will come to Bloomington for Indiana’s homecoming at noon on October 29th. The Hoosiers will also be the noon homecoming opponent for the Wisconsin Badgers on October 15th and the Iowa Hawkeyes on October 22nd.
