Purdue Quarterback Robert Marve Cited In Miami Investigation

The far-reaching investigation by Yahoo Sports into the Miami Hurricanes football program has leveled serious allegations at "The U", and it turns out those allegations go far beyond South Florida. Purdue quarterback Robert Marve, who is still recovering from his second ACL surgery, was one player named by the Yahoo report as having accepted gifts from booster Nevin Shapiro. Marve began his career in Miami during the 2008 season where he started 11 games before deciding to transfer. Here are the alleged gifts Marve received:

• Drinks and VIP access during strip club visits to Solid Gold, The Cheetah and Tootsie’s Cabaret. Shapiro said one such visit occurred in late August 2008. Shapiro said he took Marve and wideout Kayne Farquharson to Solid Gold after Marve told him he had been having problems with his girlfriend.

• Food, drinks and entertainment at Shapiro’s $6 million Miami Beach mansion on multiple occasions.

• At least one cash gift.

• At least two dinners at Prime 112 steakhouse.

• Transportation by Shapiro’s bodyguards and Miami staffer Sean Allen.

• Drinks and VIP access at nightclubs on multiple occasions.

It is not known how this would affect Marve's eligibility for the coming season. After starting the first four games for the Boilermakers last season he was lost with a second torn ACL against Toledo. He was expected to battle Rob Henry for the starting quarterback job once again, but his recovery is behind schedule according to coach Danny Hope and would not be ready to play if the season began today.
