More details regarding the arrest of Purdue Boilermakers guard D.J. Byrd are emerging, and it looks like he was indeed brought in for suspicion of public intoxication. According to jconline.com, Byrd's teammate, Kelsey Barlow is also involved and possibly the instigator to all of this. Barlow had been at Where Else Bar when he was either kicked out of left on his own, but came back looking for his wallet, which he thought he left there.
Where Else didn't want to let him back in (lending credibility to the thought that he was initially kicked out), so he returned with Byrd and other members of the Purdue basketball team. There was an altercation, the West Lafayette police were called, and then Byrd was the only player to be brought in for arrest. As it happens, he was brought in by an Indiana State trooper who happened to be driving by.
Byrd has already been released since his arrest at 3:35 a.m. on Friday, and there's no word yet on any potential disciplinary action to be taken against him. As is usually the case with college athletics, some sort of disciplinary actions could be taken relatively soon.

The Purdue Exponent reported early on Friday morning that Purdue Boilermakers guard David Jonathan Byrd was arrested on Thursday night per the West Lafayette police records. The charges appear to be for public intoxication, per an update on the Exponent's article.
Byrd has been playing quite well for the Boilermakers in 2011/2012, with eight points a game averaged and several straight games in a row with double digits in the point column. The Boilermakers are currently 7-6 in Big Ten play and sixth overall in the Big Ten conference, the highest team in the standings that isn't ranked nationally.
Purdue have an immensely important game coming up against conference leading Michigan State over the weekend so the loss of a big player like Byrd could scarcely have happened at a worse time.

Kelsey Barlow Dismissed From Purdue Basketball Program, D.J. Byrd Suspended, According To Report
All of the speculation and focus surrounding an incident that led to D.J. Byrd's arrest early Friday morning has focused on, well, Byrd. He was the only player arrested in an altercation that includes teammate Kelsey Barlow and other unnamed members of the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team. Byrd was arrested for public intoxication outside of Where Else Bar early Friday morning, after showing up with the aforementioned unnamed members of the basketball team at the request of Barlow, who was kicked out of the establishment.
Barlow eventually came back and said he left his wallet there, but they refused to let him back in the bar, which was what led to Byrd and others showing up. Either way, it looks like Barlow is more to blame than anyone, despite Byrd being the one who's getting arrested. Twitter then proceeded to blow up about Barlow potentially being dismissed from the program, as he was not at practice on Friday. Confirmation came from GoldandBlack.com via Twitter:
That's a huge blow to the Boilermakers on multiple fronts. For one, Byrd is a great player and the game against Michigan State should be a big one, and Barlow is the best defender on the team with an ever-expanding game and skillset. It may seem harsh, but it's just one of the multiple times Barlow has got himself into trouble. There should be a full statement from the university in the near future.
